Settle Harriers Junior Coaching

Juniors Training

Settle Harriers Juniors – School Years 3 to 10

Settle Harriers' junior coaching sessions for children in school years 3 through to year 10 take place every Tuesday during school term time. They are open to children who are Settle Harriers members and have enrolled and paid for the sessions in advance. The termly fee is based on £1 per session (so £12 for the current term).  This is in addition to the annual club membership subscription (currently £5 for juniors – family membership is also available).

Our coaches Jill, Julia and Carol are qualified to UK Athletics Level 2 and have appropriate DBS clearance. We also have a number of "Level 1" assistant coaches, also with DBS clearance.

Please note that these sessions are currently over-subscribed in some age-groups, so please contact us at  to see if there are places available.  If there is not currently a place available,  your child can be put on our "waiting list" for a short time until there are spaces.   When emailing us, it will help if you can give your child’s full name, date of birth, school year, details of any previous running experience and any other relevant information.  We will then get back to you as soon as we can.

We have a Code of Conduct that we would like all participating athletes and parents to take note of.

Date / Times of sessions:

TThe dates for junior training sessions this term are as follows:

April   14, 21, 28
May    5, 19
June  2, 9, 16, 23, 30
July    7, 14

NB: There will be no junior training on May 12th as this is the date of the Jack Bloor races on Ilkley Moor.  Once again, we will be supporting these races and encouraging all our juniors to take part.

May 26th = Half Term

Start time: 5.40pm (but please arrive by 5.30pm for registration)

Venue: Eshton’s Playing Fields, Raines Road, Giggleswick (next to the all-weather floodlit pitches).

Settle Harriers Juniors – School Years 11 to 13

Training for older juniors (school years 11 to 13) takes place from the same venue (Eshton’s Playing Fields, Raines Road, Giggleswick) but at the later time of 6.50pm.  Sessions are open to all those within this age range and cater for all abilities.  We encourage participants to also become members of Settle Harriers.

We have an ever-growing number of young athletes taking part in these sessions, but we would warmly welcome more to join us.  The session is combined with a training session for seniors but modified for the younger athletes when appropriate.

The sessions are led by Carol (UKA Level 2 qualified coach) and Andy (Level 1) who both have DBS clearance.

There is a fee of £1 to take part in each of these sessions (on a pay-as-you-go basis) and the sessions take place throughout the year and not just in school term-time (unless we advise otherwise).
